John will be attending Mississippi State University this fall, where he plans to study mechanical engineering.

John Goodwin’s impressive high school career is marked by his exceptional achievements both in academics and athletics. He has participated in football, lacrosse, student council, student ambassadors, student ministry team, and the rock-climbing club. His relentless work ethic has propelled him to the top of both the athletics and academic departments. Maintaining above a 4.0 GPA, John has received departmental awards within the STEM program and a prestigious service award. Additionally, he has been recognized with the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award and has been a two-sport varsity athlete all four years of high school.

John’s passion for mechanical engineering, particularly in the automotive and heavy equipment industries, has been evident since elementary school. He is fascinated by performance engines, custom performance parts, and assembly line efficiency, as well as agricultural and construction machinery. His goal is to work for a leading company like John Deere, CAT, or JCB, where he hopes to design and improve powerful machines, such as earth movers and tractors.

“I am incredibly honored to receive the FleetNow Construct Your Future Scholarship,” said John. “This scholarship will greatly support my studies at Mississippi State University and help me pursue my dream of leading a team in designing innovative machinery. I am excited to take the first steps toward achieving my goals and making a significant impact in the industry.”

The FleetNow Construct Your Future Annual Scholarship was established in 2023 with the goal of assisting exceptional students like John Goodwin achieve their educational and career aspirations.

We are now taking applications for the 2025 FleetNow Construct Your Future Scholarship. We will again be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a selected student applicant for use toward their degree or certification. One student will be selected per year.

To qualify for the FleetNow Construct Your Future Annual Scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a high school or undergraduate student pursuing a higher education in a heavy-equipment related field.
• Submit a 500+ word essay or a 2-minute video detailing who the applicant is, their future goals, and how they plan to reach those goals.

OHR Rents has been using FleetNow Inspect for a year now to maintain their construction equipment and their shop is posting impressive efficiency gains since adapting the digital workflow.

Comparing inspections run before the app to inspections run today – the increase was astounding – the mechanics ran 73% more inspections using the app versus paper. This happened while rentals were up 10% and total equipment in the yard was up 31%.

During 2023, all seven mechanics at OHR Rents used the inspection app. We compared September 2022 inspections – the last month before mechanics started to use the app – to September 2023 inspections.

• September 2022 – 7 mechanics, 1,177 machines, 264 paper inspections
• September 2023 – 7 mechanics, 1,545 machines, 459 digital inspections

“My writing is bad,” Eric says. “Being able to read my notes is one of the biggest benefits.”

In October 2022, FleetNow conducted a time study to see how much time a mechanic could save using the app versus paper while inspecting equipment.

Over a month, mechanics were observed while inspecting machines. Front desk employees and managers were observed while handling and scanning paperwork. We found that mechanics saved over 3 minutes on each inspection using the app – a savings that added up to $2700 over the past year!

In her role as Vice President of Operations at FleetNow, Lagow will lead and execute company strategy and manage all operations within the organization.

Time Study: Digitizing Rental Equipment Inspections Saves 80 Hours of Work Per Mechanic, Per Year

A time study conducted for FleetNow Inspect™ found that companies that replace paper equipment inspections with digital inspections can save 80 hours of work per mechanic, per year.

The study, released today, followed mechanics, front desk employees, and managers at Cleveland-based OHR Rents for 30 days. The study tracked the time spent preparing rental ready and annual inspections using paper forms versus FleetNow Inspect for the 1,300+ machines owned by OHR Rents. “Even when mechanics have every piece of paper at the ready, they still had to spend time copying numbers from one sheet or report to the next,” Service Manager Tom Yagersz says. “Restocking paperwork, reprinting forms, and walking from a workstation to deliver paperwork ate up a surprising amount of time.”

“Our findings show that switching from paper to digital saved more than two and a half minutes for each machine inspected – with additional savings for front desk workers and equipment managers after the machine was inspected,” Jeff Kresock, Director of IT at FleetNow says. “When it’s time to sell a machine, it will be easier to email the buyer with all past inspection reports to help close the deal.”

That time savings alone could translate into 89 additional equipment inspections per year for each of the mechanics at OHR Rents – which means faster rental turnaround and increased customer satisfaction.

Once the study was completed, employees began using the FleetNow Inspect app to maintain the OHR Rents’ fleet.
