Manitou Telehandlers: Models, Specs and Prices

Last updated: November 2026

Manitou is a French equipment maker and one of the best-known telehandler brands. In North America it sells compact MT models, MTA construction telehandlers, high-lift MT models, heavy-duty MHT machines and rotating MRT telehandlers, and Manitou Group also owns Gehl. FleetNow had 17 Manitou telehandlers listed in November 2026. This guide explains Manitou model names, compares specs for common models, shows what used Manitou telehandlers sell for, compares them with Gehl, Genie and JCB and lists what to check before you buy.

How Manitou Model Names Work

Manitou model names give lift height and capacity, but the order and units depend on the series:

  • MTA: North American construction telehandlers named in US units. An MTA 8044 lifts 8,000 lb to 44 ft. Series IV, S3 and E74 (a 74 hp engine) mark different versions.
  • MT: fixed-boom telehandlers named in metric units, height first. An MT 1840 reaches about 18 m (57 ft 7 in) and lifts 4 metric tons (8,818 lb). The compact MT 625 H reaches about 6 m and lifts 2.5 metric tons.
  • MHT: heavy-capacity telehandlers. An MHT 790 reaches about 7 m and lifts 9 metric tons (19,842 lb).
  • MRT: rotating telehandlers with a 360-degree turret and outriggers, such as the MRT 2550.
  • MLT: agricultural telehandlers, such as the MLT 840-115 PS (115 hp, powershift transmission).
  • ULM: ultra-compact models for tight spaces, such as the ULM 415 H.

An “H” usually marks hydrostatic drive, and “ST5” marks European Stage V engine versions.

Manitou Telehandler Specs

These are published specs for the Manitou models most often listed on FleetNow and for Manitou’s main North American sizes. Maximum capacity applies only close in and low, so always check the load chart for your lift height and reach.

The MT 1335, MT 1440, MT 1840 and MHT 790 figures come from Manitou’s Stage V (ST5) specs, and some older units were rated differently, so check the serial plate and load chart on the machine you are buying. The MHT 10130, MHT 1490 and MRT 2550 are no longer in Manitou’s North American lineup; their figures come from published spec data for used units. For reference, the MT 625 H weighs about 10,600 lb, the MTA 8044 about 23,500 lb, the MT 1840 about 26,200 lb and the MHT 10130 about 40,800 lb.

Manitou’s MTA range also includes the MTA 6034 (5,999 lb, 34 ft 3 in), MTA 6642 (6,601 lb, 42 ft), MTA 9050 (8,999 lb, 50 ft 2 in), MTA 10044 (10,000 lb, 44 ft), MTA 10055 (10,000 lb, 55 ft), MTA 12042 (12,000 lb, 42 ft) and MTA 12055 (12,000 lb, about 55 ft). Manitou’s current pages also list newer MTA names such as the MTA 642, MTA 842, MTA 1055 and MTA 1255.

Popular Manitou Telehandler Models

Manitou MTA 8044

Red Manitou MTA 8044 telehandler with its boom raised and forks attached

The MTA 8044 is Manitou’s 8,000 lb, 44 ft construction telehandler and competes with the Genie GTH-844 and Gehl RS8-44. It reaches 30 ft 6 in forward. Engines changed over the years: the current Series IV spec table lists a 119 hp Deutz, while older units used other engines, so check the engine plate. FleetNow lists this model as the Manitou MT 8044.

Manitou MT 1840, MT 1440 and MT 1335

Red Manitou MT 1840 high-lift telehandler with a work platform on its extended boom

The MT 1840 lifts 8,818 lb and reaches 57 ft 7 in high and 42 ft 11 in forward, which makes it taller than most 10,000 lb, 55 ft machines. It suits masonry, steel and roofing work where height matters more than capacity. The MT 1440 (44 ft 5 in) and MT 1335 (41 ft 4 in) are smaller versions of the same design.

Manitou MT 625 H

Red and gray Manitou MT 625 H compact telehandler with forks

The MT 625 is the most listed Manitou telehandler on FleetNow. The MT 625 H lifts 5,512 lb to 19 ft 2 in with a 75 hp Kubota engine, hydrostatic drive and three steering modes, so it is popular with farms, landscapers and contractors who need a compact machine.

Manitou MHT Heavy Telehandlers

MHT models handle loads far beyond a standard telehandler, such as precast concrete, steel and large tires. The MHT 790 lifts 19,842 lb to 22 ft 4 in, the MHT 10130 lifts 28,660 lb to 31 ft 7 in and the MHT 1490 lifts 19,800 lb to 45 ft 11 in. Manitou has since replaced the MHT 10130 with the MHT 10135.

Manitou ULM 415 H

The ULM 415 H lifts 3,307 lb to 14 ft 1 in with a 35 hp Yanmar engine. It is built for tight job sites, barns and indoor work where a full-size telehandler will not fit.

Manitou MRT 2550 and MLT 840-115 PS

The MRT 2550 is a rotating telehandler with a 360-degree turret and outriggers. It lifts up to 11,021 lb and reaches about 81 ft high, so it can work like a small crane or aerial platform. The MLT 840-115 PS is an agricultural model that lifts 8,818 lb to 24 ft 10 in with a 115 hp John Deere engine.

Across the 13 priced listings, asking prices ran from $43,850 to $239,900 with a median of $100,000. Heavy MHT machines cost far more than standard telehandlers. Manitou does not publish list prices; one US dealer listed a new 2026 MTA 642 at $156,000 before tax and freight, so ask a Manitou dealer for a current quote on a new machine.

Manitou vs Gehl, Genie and JCB

Manitou telehandlers are less common on the used market than Genie, JLG, SkyTrak and JCB, but its MTA models compete directly in the most popular size classes.

What to Check Before Buying a Used Manitou Telehandler

  • Read the serial plate and load chart decals and confirm they match the model and attachments you need. European-built or CE-rated units can carry different ratings than North American machines.
  • Check the hour meter and ask for maintenance records, including engine, transmission and axle oil changes.
  • Start the engine cold and look for smoke, hard starting, leaks and DEF or emissions warnings on newer units.
  • Extend and retract the boom fully. Watch for jerky movement, drifting and worn wear pads, and check the boom for cracks or welds.
  • Test the frame leveling, stabilizers or outriggers (on models that have them) and the load moment indicator.
  • On MRT rotating models, test turret rotation in both directions, check the slew ring for play and test the remote control and platform functions.
  • Drive in every gear and steering mode, and test the service and parking brakes.
  • Check the carriage, quick-attach and forks for wear, bends and cracks.
  • Look for hydraulic leaks at cylinders, hoses and the pump.
  • Inspect the tires, cab glass and ROPS/FOPS for damage.

Manitou Telehandler FAQs

Manitou telehandlers are made by Manitou Group, a French company headquartered in Ancenis, France. Manitou Group also owns the Gehl and Mustang brands and sells Manitou telehandlers in North America through its dealer network.

MTA models are named in US units, so an MTA 8044 lifts 8,000 lb to 44 ft. MT, MHT and MRT models are named in metric units with height first, so an MT 1840 reaches about 18 m (57 ft 7 in) and lifts 4 metric tons (8,818 lb). See the model names section above for each series.

In November 2026, Manitou telehandlers on FleetNow were listed from $43,850 for a 2023 ULM 415 H to $239,900 for a 2021 MHT 10130, with a median of $100,000 across 13 priced listings. Mid-size models such as the MTA 8044, MT 1335 and MT 1440 were listed at about $90,000 to $100,000.

For capacity, the largest is the MHT 12330 heavy telehandler, rated for about 72,750 lb (33 metric tons). For height, rotating MRT models reach the highest; the MRT 2550 reaches about 81 ft. Among fixed-boom models sold in North America, the MT 1840 reaches the highest at 57 ft 7 in.

Weight depends on the model. The MT 625 H weighs about 10,600 lb, the MTA 8044 about 23,500 lb, the MT 1840 about 26,200 lb, the MHT 10130 about 40,800 lb and the MRT 2550 about 41,700 lb. Check the serial plate for the exact weight of the machine you are buying.

Manitou Group has owned Gehl since 2008. The two brands are sold separately, but they build telehandlers in similar size classes, such as the Manitou MTA 8044 and the Gehl RS8-44. See our Gehl telehandler guide to compare.
